Bob's Books 5/23/08

It was a big week for me. In quality and quantity. So many damn books they don’t fit in the keywords! Spoilers will follow.

•Echo 3- a lot happened in this book to further develop the story. It is obviously character driven but this issue shows the promise of serious action in the future. Not to be outdone it is also revealed the main character Julie truly has a crappy life. On top of that she is also a walking A-bomb!

•The End League 3- I like the ideas in this book but I think it is doing too much too soon. I am all for villains ruling the world but this series needs a damn encyclopedia to keep track of the cast of characters, both the living and dead.

•Batman and the Outsiders 7- this issue ends like the rest. Things get more and more bad for the good guys. I would like to see some character interaction between the active team.

•Birds of Prey 118- the dark side of black Alice my foot. An old idea reused and mixed in with some new gods…. Or are they old gods since they all died. Whatever.

•JLA 21- I like the emphasis put on the big 3 with their little meeting and all but why bother? I mean what has Wonder Woman done to earn a place at that table? I mean even Superman is nothing more then an icon. Nothing of note going on in his life. Batman is more busier then any hero out there. Then we have Libra showing up and being elevated to cosmic threat in the blink of an eye. So subtle DC!

•JSA 15- I really like this book, and the fact that DC let this book come out the same time JLA did was a mistake. This is the superior book and team too. A story involving Gog is either a classic or a mistake… I read classic.

•Robin 174- Let people stay dead. She wasn’t even a major character. Her death though was a resounding success! And of course Batman knew about it. Way to drive a rift between Bats and Robin.

•Superman/Batman 48- A kryptonite Doomsday! What the hell! I love the interaction between the 2 heroes but this one just sucked. And of course all roads lead to lex.

•Dark Ivory 2- I should of waited for the trade. The art is ok but the story is nothing new. The covers are misleading.

•Madame Mirage 6- I liked this book a lot. It comes to an end with this issue but I hope more to follow. The world that was created is very damn interesting and should be followed up on.

•Pilot Season: Twilight Guardian- This reminded me of echo. A young woman with issues. Except she escapes into comic books and begins to patrol her neighborhood.

•Avengers Initiative 13- I thought this would of sucked considering the great run ending in issue 12. It didn’t. The new students are all criminals and/ or seriously screwed up. Sounds like this class is going to rock too.

•The Mighty Avengers 14- This issue actually shows how the Sentry is horrible yet has potential. Not to mention the Skrulls are just too damn good!

•Captain America 38- If it wasn’t for the Skrulls I would say the Red Skull is the biggest threat on earth. He is so many steps ahead of everybody they should have their hero status revoked.

•Fantastic Four 557- What the hell!

•The Incredible Hercules 117- this book has depth. I mean Hercules is a former Avenger and not to mention connected to the gods. They used the god aspect in this issue and mixed in the Skrulls. This led to the formation of the God Squad! Trust me, it works.

•Ultimate Fantastic Four 54- I hope they keep sue and reed far apart for a lot more. The art in this is good and the introduction of the Salem 7 is interesting. I didn’t follow them in the normal Universe but they seem interesting here.

•Ultimate X-Men 94- Great book. The art is great and the story is daring. Colossus is a junkie with only the mutant ability of steel skin not strength. Ballsy and great!

•Wolverine Origins 25- A weak 25th issue. I mean the son shows up again and gets taken cared of in a interesting way. BUT NO! MARVEL HAD TO THROW IN DEADPOOLS FIRST APPEARANCE. WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN COOL IF NOT FOR THE WHOLE MATTTER OF IT BEING DRAWN BY ROB LIEFELD! Marvel, you owe me!

•X-factor 31- Good book. It ended the whole arcade story and eludes to the government getting involved in X-Factor’s business.

•X-Men: Divided We Stand 2- I liked this one more then the first. Too see the beast go through the Mansion ruins was great. Forge’s story was good to. He is greatly misused. I liked Havok’s story I just think that story would work great with Nova. Nori’s story was just more damn grief.
