Bob’s Books 10/8/08

Ok it has so been a while, for that I apologize to the millions of fans who eagerly await my reviews. LOL! Moving along. To sum the books during my absence, Mostly crap and I am suffering invasion sickness.

•Flash Gordon 2 – I first heard and saw this book during NYCC 08. I was somewhat interested and only picked it up because I remember the convention friendly. I was happily rewarded with good art and an interesting take on the “classic” story of flash. The art is a more cartoon version of Campbell’s. I would recommend this book to some one interested in something cute.

•The End League 5 – This book had me on the first issue with evil winning and heroes dying. But there is very little sense in this world. I think it is heading to something that will bring everything together besides Thor’s hammer. I just don’t know what. Too many people are dying off, not letting the reader get used to any character.

•Action Comics 870 – This is the best superman book. Get on this series and while at it also get the legion story, also drawn by Gary Frank. This book in particular is to have huge ramifications in the Superman world.

•Batman Confidential 22 – the series is just fun, real friendly to long time fans and rewarding to new readers. This book begins a new arc involving the Joker in his sick prime!

•Detective Comics 849 – The best Batman book. I loved hush when written by Loeb and I love him now when written by Dini. I also must say that whoever wrote hush in Gotham Knights made Hush the villain he is. Get the back issues to this arc!

•Final Crisis: Revelations 3 – I wish this book were weekly. It is by far the best of the current crisis books, followed closely by the rogue’s book. Finally we are seeing Batwoman, who needed to be shown more. Then there is Vandal Savage. Nuff said.

•Gen13 23 – This is the book Wildstorm has no idea what to do with. It freaking shows! They are in the middle of a post-apocalyptic NY and they day dream on how they see the end of the world. WTF!

•Green Lantern 35 – Secret origin is so on point. Johns and Reis are a dynamic due. If you are not reading this book already you are truly missing out on a comic book being great.

•GL Corps 29 – Bring on the next corps. This one being purple, for love. This is the beginning of this arc and I recommend you getting on. This is a clear lead into the other lanterns. Lantern watch has begun.

•Secret Six 2 – I love this book so damn much. And I ain’t jumping on no band wagon. I loved this team from the beginning. Now they finally got a regular book and it is good. Get it while you can still get the 1st printings.

•Trinity 19 – I don’t know why I am still on this damn book. Adam will tear me a new one when he reads I still buy this book.

•Wonder Woman 25 – Gail Simone is doing her thing in Secret Six, but not here. I don’t think it is her either. DC seems to be trying to much to make WW iconic. From her origin to her powers, only WW is iconic already for totally different reasons.

•Deadpool 3 – I want to be like Deadpool when I grow up. LOL! Ok maybe not but he lives the good life though. He gave skrulls cancer! Beat that!

•The Invincible Iron Man 6 – The current arc is done and it finishes off well. Now lets see where it goes from here. Hopefully exploring the dumb decision it is to be head of S.H.I.E.L.D.

•Secret Invasion: Inhumans 3 – Let’s get it on already! Bring on the fighting. Why must people take it easy with the Inhumans when they can so kick ass.

•the Twelve 8 – It’s an ok issue. Black Widow’s origin is revealed and she is a great character that should stick around. I mean in Iron Fist or other occult books. The rest is continuing the build up to something. I’m still waiting.

•X-Men: Magneto Testament 2- The covers rock but that’s it. The rest is basically the same Nazi Jew story told over again. This series being worth it will depend on how it ends.

•X-Men: Manifest Destiny 2 – This book is ok. I liked the white queen piece the most. The Ice Man story was to blah for me. It seems they are going to build up Ice Man and I don’t have the patience for it. It was long over due, especially after seeing Age of Apocalypse Ice Man.

•X-Men: Original Sin 1 – this is Marvel milking Wolverine. The introduction of his son was one thing but to bring him into the x books already is too much and the price of 3.99 is absurd.

Marvel dropped several at this price this week and they almost always lead the pack with this price. This needs to stop. Marvel is currently the best in the business sales wise. They can afford to take a hit per issue if they keep it to a minimum. Not to mention most of these damn extra sized books are half new material and the other half is reprinted crap. (Though the one in original sin was cool to read.) others in past Hulk books and also the Twelve book that dropped a while was crap. Hell I bought the book and didn’t read it at all.
